The UK Visas and Immigration guidance "Fees for citizenship applications and the right of abode from 9 April 2025" was updated on 8 April 2026.
For adults applying for British citizenship, the total fee is £1,839 for naturalisation (form AN) and £1,670 for registration (forms B(OS), B(OTA), RS1, S1, S2, S3 T and EM). Registration under B(OTA) as an Irish citizen costs £723. Registration under section 4C, 4G, 4H or 4I (forms UKM, UKF, BOTC(F) and BOTC(M)) costs £130, which is the ceremony fee only.
For a child under 18 registering as a British citizen, the fee is £1,000, or £607 under B(OTA) as an Irish citizen. If the child turns 18 during the application, an extra £130 ceremony fee per applicant is required at the point of decision. A child applying to register as a British overseas territories citizen, British Overseas citizen or British subject pays £863.
Other fees include £513 to renounce a nationality or status (form RN), £589 for a certificate of entitlement to the right of abode (ROA), £456 for a duplicate certificate (NC), £489 for confirmation of status as a British citizen (NS) or of non-acquisition (NQ), and £513 for a reconsideration of a naturalisation or registration application (NR). A reconsideration of a right of abode application (RROA) costs £589.
The overall British citizenship fee has three elements: handling and processing, biometric enrolment (no fee) and the citizenship ceremony fee for those required to attend a ceremony.
What this means for applicants
Pay the full fee when you submit. Online applicants pay by credit or debit card during the application. Paper applicants must send the payment slip with payment by credit or debit card or cheque, not cash, transcash or postal orders.
If the full fee or biometric data is not provided, the application is rejected as invalid, it is not considered, and the fee is refunded less a £30 administration fee. The exception is a certificate correction, where the fee is requested after the caseworker decides what correction is appropriate.
If your application is refused or withdrawn, you will not get a refund of the handling and processing fee. Certificates of citizenship cannot be issued until fees have been received.
