From 11 March 2026, Home Office travel documents are linked automatically to UKVI accounts, so holders can see the travel document number beside their eVisa. Physical documents are still issued, and holders should keep carrying them abroad.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is replacing physical immigration documents with a digital immigration status, known as an eVisa. Its guidance "Updates on the move to eVisas" now explains how Home Office travel documents fit into that system.
From 11 March 2026, Home Office travel documents are automatically linked to the holder's UKVI account. The account shows the travel document number alongside the eVisa.
When a new travel document is issued, it appears in the UKVI account within 2 working days once the decision is received.
The guidance says people will continue to receive a physical Home Office travel document. It also says holders should continue to carry it when they travel overseas.
The same guidance page covers other parts of the move to eVisas. It says that updating a physical document to an eVisa does not affect immigration status or the conditions of permission to enter or stay in the UK. Successful new applicants receive an eVisa, and before travelling to the UK they will need to sign in to their UKVI account to view the eVisa and check their permission. Where a form for accompanying an eVisa (FAV) is issued, the applicant will usually need to return to the visa application centre (VAC) to collect it. When linked to the eVisa, the FAV allows travel to the UK. The guidance also states that UKVI stopped issuing visa vignettes (stickers) to successful new applicants on 1 July 2026.
What this means for applicants
Home Office travel documents are now linked to the holder's UKVI account automatically. Holders can sign in to the account to see the travel document number next to the eVisa.
Anyone who receives a new travel document can expect to see it in the account within 2 working days once they get their decision. The guidance says they should continue to carry the physical document when travelling overseas.
