Version 10/26 of Appendix D lists the documents sponsors must keep to meet their record-keeping duties. It is valid from 8 October 2026. The guidance lists three substantive changes, and its wording on date of entry checks (section 1.2) also covers how vignettes and eVisas are evidenced.
Right to work checks (section 1.1). This section has been redrafted to reflect the extension of the Right to Work Scheme to other working arrangements from 1 October 2026. Sponsors must keep evidence of right to work checks on any worker they employ, or are considered to employ for the purposes of the Scheme, even if they are not the sponsor. They must also keep evidence for any worker they sponsor, regardless of the nature of the working arrangement.
Religious Worker recruitment (section 2.1). The guidance reflects the removal of the resident labour consideration for the Religious Worker route from 29 October 2026. The table now describes the route as "in place between 11 October 2021 and 28 October 2026 (inclusive)".
New duty for Religious Worker sponsors (section 2.2(e)). This applies where the worker applied for entry clearance or permission on or after 29 October 2026 and meets the role eligibility requirements for the route because they were performing religious duties outside the UK for at least 6 months for a faith-based organisation to which the sponsor is affiliated. In that case the sponsor must keep a copy of the letter given to the worker by that organisation confirming details of this.
Date of entry checks (section 1.2). The guidance sets out what to copy depending on how the worker's permission was evidenced:
- A worker granted entry clearance before 20 May 2026 may have a vignette sticker as well as, or in limited cases instead of, an eVisa. The sponsor must copy the page containing the vignette and entry stamp.
- A worker without a Home Office accepted passport or travel document receives a "form for affixing a visa" containing a vignette if the application was granted before 1 July 2026.
- If the application was granted on or after 1 July 2026, the worker receives a "form for accompanying an eVisa", without a vignette. The sponsor must copy the part of that form containing the entry stamp.
The guidance also contains other minor housekeeping changes.
What this means for applicants
Sponsors must keep the records described in Appendix D for each sponsored worker, in paper or electronic form, and be able to make them available to the Home Office on request. Sponsors must keep evidence of right to work checks, including under the extended Scheme from 1 October 2026. A Religious Worker sponsor must keep the confirmation letter only where section 2.2(e) applies: the worker applied on or after 29 October 2026 and qualifies on the basis of at least 6 months of religious duties outside the UK for a faith-based organisation to which the sponsor is affiliated.
