Canada is listed in table C of the Home Office Service Supplier guidance, which applies to workers sponsored under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and to their sponsors.
Key facts
- Who: Service Suppliers (Global Business Mobility) sponsored under the CPTPP, and their sponsors
- From: Not stated in the source. The guidance shows "Updated 1 September 2026".
- Source: Service Supplier visa: eligible trade agreements and sectors
Table C ("location of the business") in the Home Office guidance on eligible trade agreements and sectors for the Service Supplier visa (Global Business Mobility) lists Canada. The table names ten countries: Japan, New Zealand, Vietnam, Chile, Malaysia, Brunei, Peru, Australia, Mexico and Canada.
The sector tables for employees of overseas service providers ("contractual service suppliers", table A) and for self-employed service providers ("independent professionals", table B) both carry the note "*also see table C".
The guidance's CPTPP section says that, in addition to providing a service in one of the sectors listed in table A or B, a Service Supplier sponsored under the CPTPP must either:
- be working for a business located in a country that has ratified the United Kingdom's accession to the CPTPP, as listed in table C; or
- be operating as an Independent Professional in such a country, as listed in table C.
Service Suppliers under the CPTPP must also be a national of a country that has ratified the UK's accession to the CPTPP. These countries are listed in table C. The guidance adds that permanent residents of New Zealand or Australia are also eligible to apply "from 24th Dec". The paragraph does not give a year.
The guidance also states that the work must be for a service covered by one of the UK's international trade agreements that is currently in force or being provisionally applied.
What this means for applicants
For CPTPP sponsorship, Canada is now among the countries listed in table C. The sector requirement continues to apply: the work must fall within a sector marked "Yes" in the CPTPP column of table A or table B. Applicants and sponsors should check the business location or independent professional condition and the nationality condition against table C.
